How much does it cost to rent an e-bike on Sanibel Island?

At Finnimore's Cycle Shop on Sanibel, e-bike rentals are $50 for four hours and $80 for a full day. Multi-day rates are $140 for two days, $180 for three, $220 for four, and $250 for five to seven days. Two weeks is $400 and a month is $600. Every rental includes a free helmet, lock, trail maps and parking.

How much is a weekly e-bike rental on Sanibel?

A weekly e-bike rental at Finnimore's is $250, which works out to about $36 per day. The five, six and seven day rates are all $250, so visitors booking five days pay the same as those booking the full week and should take all seven days.

Is it cheaper to rent an e-bike by the day or by the week on Sanibel?

The per-day cost falls steadily with longer rentals. A single day is $80, three days works out to $60 per day, a week is about $36 per day, two weeks about $29 per day, and a month about $20 per day. Two flat tiers offer particular value: five to seven days all cost $250, and twelve to fourteen days all cost $400.

Does Finnimore's require a deposit for e-bike rentals?

No. Finnimore's does not take a deposit or hold a card to reserve an e-bike, and rentals can be cancelled at any time with no fee or penalty. Payment is made at pickup. If it rains, the rental period can be shifted to different days rather than refunded.

What is included with a Finnimore's e-bike rental?

Every e-bike rental includes a helmet, a lock, printed Sanibel and Captiva trail maps, a child seat if needed, and free parking at the Periwinkle Way store, all at no extra charge. How much cheaper is a regular bike than an e-bike on Sanibel?

A one-speed cruiser at Finnimore's is $13 for four hours, $21 for a day and $40 for five to seven days, compared with $50, $80 and $250 for an e-bike. A multi-speed bike is $16, $27 and $60. The cruiser is sufficient for short flat rides, while the e-bike is better suited to longer distances such as the 23-mile round trip to Captiva, summer heat, or keeping mixed-ability groups together.

Do I need to reserve an e-bike in advance on Sanibel?

In season, yes. E-bikes are the first rental to sell out at Finnimore's, and walk-in customers are frequently turned away between December and April. Reserving ahead is recommended for any fixed travel dates. Off season is more forgiving, though calling ahead still guarantees availability.

Two things worth knowing before you book

Booking 5 days? Book 7. Our 5, 6 and 7 day rentals are all $250. If you're staying a week, take the full seven days — it costs the same as five.

Booking 12 days? Book 14. Same principle. Anything from 12 to 14 days is $400, so take the full two weeks.

The other one people miss: a full day is only $30 more than four hours. If there's any chance you'll want the bike into the afternoon, the day rate is the better buy at $80.

What kind of e-bike do I get?

Every rental is an Aventon Pace 500 — a step-through cruiser with a 500W motor and a 614Wh battery rated up to 60 miles per charge.

Every bike in our fleet has the throttle physically removed and pedal assist capped at 20 mph, making it a Class 1 e-bike. Class 1 is the only class Sanibel permits on the Shared Use Path, so the bike is legal as we hand it to you. Full detail on our e-bike rentals page and in our guide to Sanibel e-bike rules.

Deposits, cancellations and weather

No deposit. We don't take a deposit or hold a card to reserve a bike. Book the dates you want and pay when you pick up.

Cancel anytime. No cancellation window, no fee, no penalty. Plans change on vacation and we'd rather you booked with confidence than hedged.

If it rains, we don't refund the rental — but we will shift your rental period so you get the days you paid for. Call us and we'll move it. Florida rain tends to pass in an afternoon, and a rescheduled day is usually all anyone needs.

Do you deliver?

Yes — to every property on Sanibel and Captiva. Resorts, condos, private rentals, wherever you're staying. We bring the bikes to you and collect them at the end.

Delivery is $10 to Sanibel and $25 to Captiva, round trip — that price covers both drop-off and pickup. Two-day minimum rental.

No bike rack, no second car trip, no hauling anything. The bikes are waiting when you arrive.

Is the e-bike worth roughly four times the cruiser? Sometimes, and we'll tell you honestly when it isn't.

If you're riding a few miles to lunch on Periwinkle and back, take the cruiser. Sanibel is flat, the path is easy, and $21 buys a perfectly good day.

The e-bike earns the difference when the ride gets long or the conditions get hard — Captiva and back is about 23 miles, summer humidity ends rides faster than mileage does, and the afternoon Gulf headwind is the closest thing this island has to a hill. It also keeps a mixed-ability group together instead of strung out over a mile of path.

One firm constraint: Sanibel requires e-bike riders to be 16 or older. Families riding with younger children will need standard bikes.
